Three-Term Academic Year
Effective August 1, 2022, Gateway will shift to a “three-term” academic year - Fall, Spring, and Summer.
One of Gateway Seminary’s core values is a desire to focus on student needs. Over the past several months, faculty and staff have been working on a revision to the academic calendar and schedule that will enhance student experience and provide more flexibility in course scheduling.
Effective August 1, 2022, Gateway will shift to a “three-term” academic year - Fall, Spring, and Summer. This change allows the Seminary to offer classes of various lengths (full-term, eight-week, one-week, select weekends, etc.) in any of the three terms. This change creates greater flexibility for students by allowing a broader variety of course offerings.
Additionally, a three-term academic year at Gateway will lead to an earlier end to the spring semester. Spring classes should end in early May, providing students a longer summer break. For some students, this may mean more time to plan Vacation Bible School, to take a youth group to camp, or to lead a church team on a mission trip. For other students, a longer summer means taking more classes over an extended summer term instead of only having intensive options. The longer summer term also provides opportunities for students to participate in Beyond Team mission trips or to even work overseas to receive TFE credit.
This new three-term academic year will be implemented across all campuses and delivery systems. To help students, there will now be consistency across the Seminary system on things like billing due dates, add and drop dates, etc.
For students who have questions or concerns about these changes, please do not hesitate to email Registrar Deena Carter.
