Cameron Schweitzer
Director, San Francisco Campus | Associate Professor of Historical Theologycameronschweitzer@gs.eduDr. Schweitzer serves as the Director of Gateway Seminary’s San Francisco Campus and an Associate Professor of Historical Theology. He is a native Californian, never having called another state home. The Lord has long placed a burden on his heart for his home state, since his radical conversion to Christianity at eighteen years old, and subsequent calling into ministry that same year. This calling led Dr. Schweitzer to transfer from University of California Santa Barbara to California Baptist University, where he completed his Bachelor’s work in Christian Studies and Philosophy. Over the years, his burden for his home state has blossomed in a specific passion for training the next generation of ministry leaders in California and serving the state’s Southern Baptist churches.
Dr. Schweitzer’s tenure at Gateway (and Golden Gate) Seminary has stretched on for more than a decade. He began as an MDiv student at the Brea Campus of Golden Gate Seminary in 2013, finishing as a Gateway graduate in 2017. He started the PhD the same year, completing his doctoral work in 2022. His dissertation focused on the biblical exegesis of Jonathan Edwards, titled “Towards a Clearer Understanding of Jonathan Edwards’s Biblical Typology: A Case Study in the ‘Blank Bible.’” Dr. Schweitzer began his service as an employee to Golden Gate Seminary in 2015, as the Seminary’s first Enrollment Specialist. He served in this role for four years before being promoted to the Director of Enrollment. Dr. Schweitzer then served in this subsequent role for four years before being promoted to his current faculty role in the San Francisco Bay Area. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in California Baptist University’s online Christian Studies program.
Dr. Schweitzer’s academic interests include systematic theology, biblical theology, historical theology, philosophy, apologetics, and ethics. He has published several articles and book reviews in the Puritan Reformed Journal, the Jonathan Edwards Studies Journal, the Studies in Puritanism and Piety Journal, the Calvin Theological Journal, as well as Themelios. He also has published several chapters in the second and third volumes of The Jonathan Edwards Miscellanies Companion. Dr. Schweitzer is an ordained Southern Baptist minister, and has spoken on a variety of topics at churches, college ministries, and conferences throughout California and in many other states. His desire is to help Christians find all of their joy in all of the manifold excellencies of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Schweitzer lives in Fremont with his wife Sandra and two small children. As a family they enjoy taking walks in their neighborhood, frequenting new parks, and exploring the scenic beauty that the Bay Area offers. In his free time, Dr. Schweitzer enjoys cooking, trying new restaurants, roasting coffee, traveling, frequenting the gym, and engaging in lively conversation with new and old friends.
