David Rathel

Dr. Rathel is interested in Christology, the doctrine of God, retrieval theology, and 18th-century Baptist theology. He is the author of Andrew Fuller and the Search for a Faith Worthy of All Acceptation (T & T Clark, 2024), Baptists and the Emerging Church Movement (2014), John Johnson and His Influence: Selected Writings from an Eighteenth-Cenrury Baptist Minister (forthcoming), and Retrieving Classical Christology (forthcoming). He has contributed chapters to The Miscellanies Companion (JE Society Press) and Baptists, Gospel, and Culture (Mercer University Press). Dr. Rathel's refereed journal articles have appeared in The Journal of Reformed Theology, American Baptist Quarterly, Baptist Quarterly, The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology, and Southeastern Theological Review. He co-chairs the Evangelicalism in the Long Eighteenth Century Consultation for the Evangelical Theological Society and is a member of the Baptist Dogmatics Roundtable, an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Fellow at the Center for Baptist Renewal. 

Dr. Rathel desires to connect the academic study of theology with the needs and concerns of local church life. This desire emerged from his ten years of service as a minister for churches in the US and Scotland. 

His encouraging wife, April, and his amazing daughter, Sophia, are his pride and joy.
