Senior Professor of Historical Theology

Dr. Rodrick Durst has served as Professor of Historical Theology and a variety of administration roles at Gateway Seminary since 1991.

2016-2020        Director of the San Francisco Campus
2020                  Professor at the Los Angeles Campus and Director of the History/Theology Department

Dr. Durst loves the classroom, be it face to face or virtual. He teaches theology and history from a leadership formation perspective. His passion is for developing life-changing ways of communicating and teaching Christian truth for transformation, retention and rapid reproduction.

His current research includes study of emerging church movements, ecclesiology for rapid cell and simple church multiplication, new paths for apologetics, single adults in the church, and faith and film. He has recently published Reordering the Trinity (Kregel, 2015) and has multiple essays in Church Fails: 100 Blunders in Church History and what we can learn from them (B&H Publishing Group, 2016) and the chapter “Robust Ecclesiology” in the book edited by President Iorg, Ministry in the New Marriage Culture (B&H, 2015).

Dr. Durst tests what he teaches in his local church and ministers in churches in the west. From 1978-1991 he was a pastor in Santa Rosa and Vallejo. He loves cooking, hiking and art. He and his wife, Kristi, live in Lake Forest and have three adult children and three grandchildren.
