Internship Program Guidelines (Seminary Students)
Tokyo Baptist Church

1. CHURCH DESCRIPTION
Tokyo Baptist Church is an international family of believers and is located in the heart of Tokyo. Half of the congregation is Japanese and the other half is from about 50 countries of the world. We use English as our bridge language of communication.

We aspire to grow individually and collectively as a church with our commitment to the Great Commandments (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

2. PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM
In the New Testament, Jesus called twelve disciples and appointed them as apostles “to be with him, to send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons” (Mark 3:13-15 CSB). The disciples learned by doing what Jesus had taught them as they saw him in action and heard him teach. Paul took Timothy on his missionary journey during which he mentored him. Paul then instructed Timothy to entrust to reliable men what he had heard from him in the presence of many witnesses. (Acts 16:1-5, 2 Tim. 2:1-2)

The purpose of the Internship Program at Tokyo Baptist Church is to provide ministry settings whereby interns can further mature spiritually, be trained practically and be empowered by the church as they prepare to serve God and people on a full-time basis. The program can offer a rich cross-cultural mission experience for those who will be coming from outside of Japan. Moreover, the program can serve as a connecting bridge from lay ministry or seminary academic life to full-time ministry.
