CHURCH DESCRIPTION

Silver Hills is a Reformed Baptist church in the Southern Baptist Convention. We love God and love people. Our aim is to make robust disciples of Jesus Christ who can then go and make robust disciples themselves. We express our core values as: Truth – Family – Action.

Truth. We aim to be a church that draws people deeply into the Word of God to know and love their creator and savior. When we say, “Truth,” we mean we are not afraid to emphasize doctrine and theology as well as lessons to be learned throughout church history. However, knowledge, by itself, puffs up and the Lord is not honored by those who are merely hearers of the Word and not doers of it.

Family. Therefore, we also strive to live out the teachings of God’s word as we relate to one another, the family of God. Silver Hills has various ways we encourage and exhort one another beyond the Sunday morning gathering. We have home groups throughout the week, which are co-ed. We also have gender specific groups. We have parties. We have a church camping trip in the summer. Most importantly, we do our best to be engaged in one another’s lives in order to be ready to encourage one another and challenge one another as is necessary through the seasons of life.

Action. This family of God also seeks to put the Word of God into action by serving others both in our city and far beyond. We have engaged with our local hospital to bless medical workers and patients. We have hosted a booth for families at our local farmer’s market. We support four missionary families/churches directly in addition to our support of the Southern Baptist cooperative program. As often as possible, we plan mission trips to visit and work alongside our missionaries who are spread around the world. We are also striving to expand into podcast and publishing work to spread much needed content further. If the candidate has technological skills, this would be a big plus and might possibly lead to a more multi-facetted role in the future to help us reach these goals.

CITY CONTEXT

Carson City is the capital of Nevada and has a population of about 58,000. The climate is very dry and is surrounded by mountains. The town is small enough to avoid big city traffic and large enough to have all the essentials. A 30 minute drive to the north will take you to Reno with more restaurants and attractions. 30 minutes to the west, you can enjoy beautiful Lake Tahoe. For those who love the outdoors, this is an incredible place to live. In the winter we will usually get a few snowstorms that will come through, but the snow usually does not stay more than a day or so. Summers are fairly moderate, rarely getting above 100 and with the dry climate, the temperatures are much more tolerable than in many other places in the country.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Silver Hills is seeking a talented musician and singer who loves the Lord and can work with our existing singers and musicians to lead our musical worship on Sundays as well as on special occasions. He will also lead a mid-week practice for the worship team and prepare the worship slides for lyrics. We are looking for someone who can strike the balance of reverence and joyful celebration. In other words, we are seeking someone who can lead the church in fun music as well as contemplative music, all while keeping Jesus Christ the center of focus. We do not desire an atmosphere of entertainment, but we do desire a well-rounded, musical worship time that gives God the best excellence we can offer, since He is worthy of this and much more. We also hope to find a person who displays a love for the local church beyond just the music. There will not be any responsibilities outside of music for this staff position, however, our hope is that the person would be such a lover of the mission of the church that he would be eager to serve where opportunities present themselves the way any other healthy member of the church would. If the candidate desires to become an elder and take on the title of "Worship Pastor" eventually, that will certainly be considered, however, the position will not automatically begin this way.

REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to comfortably lead the congregation in prayer.
- Ability to display moderate to advanced skill on either guitar or piano.
- Ability to play additional instruments is a plus.
- Ability to lead a team which includes: Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums & Singers (We do not have a choir)
- Willingness to submit to the oversight of the Church Elders, especially as it pertains to the philosophy applied to song selection.
- He must become a member of the church upon being hired.
- He will also be expected to join a small group and be intimately involved in the life of the church.
- He must agree to the church’s Basic Beliefs & Expanded Beliefs.
- There are no specific educational prerequisites for this position.
