The Youth Director role is a full-time staff position that facilitates Lake Gregory Church fulfilling our mission and vision according to our values by –
Responsibilities:
• Praying, planning, leading and involving others in the central meeting venues of our junior and senior high youth ministry. The Youth Director is responsible for setting the direction of teaching and activity for youth under the oversight of the Senior Pastor. The Youth Director is expected to be the primary (but not exclusive) teacher in these venues.
• Developing and encouraging a team of people who are qualified and will be effective in ministry with and through youth and their families. Ensure volunteers are properly vetted and screened. These volunteers can be in direct ministry roles or support roles as is appropriate.
• Investing in parents of teens along with other leaders of family ministry. This would include helping parents to be aware of how they can encourage their own teens and their teens friends, resources that can help them in their parenting role, and ways to network, support and encourage cooperative ministry. We partner with parents and others to help disciple teens.
• Encouraging and making the most of opportunities to witness, train and serve families of teens, helping these families to find connection with the broader life and work of the Church as well as investing in their youth and their peers.
• Facilitating opportunities for youth to be involved in training and service that will help them to develop as disciples of Jesus Christ and some as leaders. We believe a healthy church is multi-generational with opportunities for cross generational growth and service.
• Facilitating and being involved directly in the process of making disciples and mentoring youth as appropriate and possible. This will involve direct involvement with teens demonstrating interest and desire to grow as well as facilitating connections with others in the Church who can provide healthy encouragement and guidance for teens.
• Involvement in campus ministry to engage students who no longer or have never attended a gathering at Lake Gregory. Further equip teenagers to have the passion and competency to reach their school and community for Christ. Build relationships and rapport with school administration and faculty.
• Coordinating with other community organizations and ministries to penetrate new circles of relationships with teens and their families.
• Participating in connection, growth and service with others in our Church’s network of relationships.
• Continuing to develop knowledge, character and skill for leading and serving as a part of LGC.
Qualifications:
• Has or will become an active member and remain a member in good standing of LGC while in this role (including acceptance and commitment to the 8 Heart Attitudes for Healthy Church Life.)
• A sense of calling to Christian ministry as a vocation.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience (volunteer or paid) and effectiveness in working with youth and their families.
• Bible college or Seminary degree with an emphasis compatible with youth ministry leadership.
• Capable of developing to the point of being ordained to the gospel ministry.
• Available a minimum of 30 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week for the responsibilities outlined above.
• Able to perform the physical functions described below
Physical Functions:
• Able to access on foot all areas of all buildings, storage units, sheds and sites on the grounds.
• Able to walk up to 4 miles daily.
• Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Able to work in both hot and cold conditions typical of outdoor mountain weather.
• Able to lift and carry objects of various sizes up to 50 lbs.
• Able to use a desktop computer and software programs to communicate, coordinate, plan and organize and to access internet websites to perform the job duties outlined above.
• Able to type, read screen print, analyze, organize, etc.
• Normal use of both hands and arms to manipulate objects of various sizes.
• Able to use and communicate effectively via a Church office provided phone. Hearing, speaking, interacting with others.
• Able to schedule appointments, meet with and communicate effectively and timely with students, other staff, volunteer workers and sub-contractors. Scheduling, talking, listening, processing conversation.
• Normal (corrected okay) unrestricted eyesight -- without limitations that would impair the performance of the responsibilities outlined above or the safety of the employee or other workers, or anyone else on site. Can clearly distinguish objects, walkways, stairs, obstructions, people, signage, in various lighting, indoors and outdoors.
• Leaning over desk and work area counters, reaching into cabinets, bending over, twisting sideways, leaning over sinks, accessing storage areas, moving equipment and supplies safely, etc.
• NOTE: The Youth Director does not have to be able to do everything that a teenager does but should be able to be active with them in an age appropriate way.
Supervision:
The Youth Director would serve under the oversight of the Senior Pastor, or other staff pastor as assigned.
Compensation: (TBD) Compensation will be negotiated at time of hire depending on qualifications, training, experience and wage ranges in the Church budget.
