First Baptist Church in Sherman, TX is seeking recommendations and/or resumes for interest in a newly redesigned position. The position we are seeking to fill is for a Minister of Church Life. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and managing a full-scale discipleship ministry within the church. Sherman is a dynamic community located in North Texas that is already experiencing explosive growth thanks to several new industries and businesses that are relocating to the area.
This position will be a great opportunity for a minister to contribute to the overall ministry of First Baptist Church and to the spiritual wellbeing of the people of our community. This Ministerial opportunity will include oversight of the Sunday School Bible study groups as well as building a small group ministry. The called Minister will need to be adept at identifying, recruiting, and training leaders for these various opportunities. They will also be responsible for curriculum choices. The position has previously been a dual position which included administrative responsibilities. Currently, however, the position will focus on the education/discipleship ministry of the church. Any administrative skills will certainly be a plus.

Job Title: Minister of Church Life
Reports to: Pastor
Hours: Full-time ministry staff
Compensation: Salary, medical insurance allotment, paid time off, & percentage retirement match.
Professional Qualifications:
• Education - Bachelor’s degree required; Seminary degree preferred.
• Experience - Minimum of two years of ministry experience on church staff desired.
Personal Qualifications:
• Able to express a call to ministry and demonstrate a mature walk with Christ.
• Meet the qualifications of an elder according to 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9
• Be in doctrinal agreement with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
Overview:
1. Will lead, shepherd, and manage all aspects of adult education and discipleship ministry at First Baptist Church.
2. Is responsible for the provision and facilitation of Christ-Centered Christian education and discipleship programs for adults and families.
3. Is required to promote evangelism, fellowship, worship, and discipleship by planning, promoting, evaluating, conducting, and coordinating all discipleship activities in the church.
4. Should demonstrate a passion for ministering within the church family to ensure growth in personal and congregational life.
5. Will be responsible for directing the spiritual formation of adults to help them have an authentic faith in Jesus Christ.
Responsibilities: Minister of Church Life Responsibilities (personal):
1. Maintain a vibrant and dynamic relationship with God, connecting with Him,
regularly in worship.
1. Participate in opportunities for growth that encourage and challenge you spiritually.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise the Administrative Assistant to the Minister of Church Life. Supervisory responsibility includes the duty to ensure appropriate communication of the following: Job expectations; work ethic; oral and written performance appraisals; programs and emphases of the church so that proper support may be given by all employees.
Ministry Responsibilities:
1. Establish, promote, and maintain an education/discipleship ministry that will seek to accomplish the following:
• Introduce individuals to salvation in Christ.
• Faithfully present the Word of God as a basis for living and authority for life.
• Disciple individuals to become fully devoted followers of Christ and His Word.
• Train and motivate individuals to share their faith with others.
• Involve individuals in mission opportunities and service.
1. Research and identify effective ministry opportunities, then select, customize, implement, and oversee ministry opportunities which support the mission of FBC Sherman.
2. Recruit and develop a leadership team consisting of adults who will staff and lead groups of believers in Bible study and discipleship.
3. Develop and lead individuals in a gospel-centered outreach and
discipleship strategy that is consistent with the values and mission of the church.
1. Plan and execute biblically accurate and culturally relevant programming for the spiritual growth of adults.
2. Develop and maintain consistent and effective methods of communication with individuals, families, volunteers, and assistants in all phases of ministry.
3. Monitor and evaluate all ministry activity both subjectively and objectively, to assess effectiveness.
4. Accept and carry out other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Pastor.
General Responsibilities:
1. Attend weekly staff meetings and perform all other duties as requested by ministerial staff.
2. Attend regularly scheduled weekly worship services, staff meetings, deacon’s meetings, assigned church committee meetings and other events that benefit the ministries of the church.
3. Conduct ministerial visits and assist in benevolences as minister of the church. Provide necessary general and special ministry assistance in the absence of other ministry staff.
4. Work with ministerial and support staff in coordinating and scheduling all activities in consideration of special emphases within the church.
5. Assist assigned committees in budget planning preparation and general function.
