Job Title: Pastor
Reports to: Personnel Committee
Hours: Full-time ministry staff
Compensation: Salary, medical insurance allotment, paid time off, & percentage retirement match.
Professional Qualifications:
• Education - Bachelor’s degree required; Master of Divinity or equivalent required; Doctor of Ministry or equivalent preferred or in process.
• Experience – Preferred minimum of five years ministry on a church staff as Senior Pastor and having provided oversight to the ministry staff.
Personal Qualifications:
• Able to express a call to ministry and demonstrate a mature walk with Christ.
• Meet the qualifications of an elder according to 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
• Be in doctrinal agreement with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
Overview:
1. Proclaim the gospel to the church and community.
2. Give priority to the study of God’s Word in preparation for preaching, teaching, and equipping the body.
3. Lead, shepherd, and manage the ministry staff employed by First Baptist Church.
4. Direct pastoral care for the congregation, utilizing the ministerial staff and deacon body.
5. Formulate and provide presentation of vision and facilitation of Christ-Centered Christian programs to facilitate church life.
6. Promote evangelism, fellowship, worship, and discipleship as essential activities for obedient disciples of Christ in the New Testament church.
7. Demonstrate a passion for ministering within the church family to ensure growth in personal and congregational life.
8. Direct the spiritual formation of the congregation to help them have an authentic faith walk with Jesus Christ.
9. Lead in planning worship opportunities through coordination of worship services, observance of church ordinances, and other special services.
10. Conduct funerals and weddings as requested according to availability.
Responsibilities: Pastor Responsibilities (personal):
1. Maintain a vibrant and dynamic relationship with God, connecting with Him,
regularly in worship.
2. Participate in opportunities for growth that encourage and challenge spiritually.
Administrative Responsibilities:
1. Assist all staff as needed, scheduling recurring meetings as determined to maintain effective communication, direction, and positive output.
2. Supervise all direct reports as outlined in the FBCS organizational chart. Supervisory responsibility includes leadership to ensure appropriate communication of job expectations, work ethic, oral and written performance evaluations, programs, and emphases of the church so that proper support may be given by all employees. Evaluate conflict situations if they arise and determine best biblical resolutions, seeking assistance from the Personnel Committee as needed, per the Personnel Policies.
3. Assist assigned committees in budget planning preparation and general function.
4. Monitor (and approve as required) personnel expenditures and paid time off.
5. Serve as ex officio member, or delegate other staff members to serve on church committees.
6. Work with the personnel committee to determine compensation levels.
7. Moderate church conferences.
8. Maintain personal and congregational awareness of denominational matters and concerns by attending and/or monitoring convention gatherings.
9. Work with the personnel committee to locate and hire ministerial staff as needed.
General Responsibilities:
1. Schedule and lead ministry staff meetings.
2. Attend regularly scheduled weekly worship services, staff meetings, deacon’s meetings, assigned church committee meetings and other events that benefit the ministries of the church.
3. Conduct ministerial visits and assist in benevolences as minister of the church. Provide necessary general and special ministry assistance in the absence of other ministry staff.
4. Work with ministerial and support staff in coordinating and scheduling all activities in consideration of special emphases within the church.
5. Accept and carry out other various responsibilities and duties as required for the spiritual growth and health of the Church.
